Patriot Memory PPSE120GS25SSDR (Direct) Pyro SE SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive Reviews
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Great drive, but getting your rebate is another story..., April 2, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Patriot Memory PPSE120GS25SSDR (Direct) Pyro SE SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (Personal Computers) I purchased this drive and other computer parts from different vendors to build a replacement gaming rig. While I have no issues with the performance of the drive itself, the steps that Patriot are going through to keep from paying my rebate are mind numbing to say the least! Of the five vendors, Patriot is the only one to deny my rebate stating I failed to provide a copy of the receipt with the item circled; hell, not only was it circled, IT WAS THE ONLY FREAKING THING ON THERE! So to recap; Amazon great, drive performance great, never getting my $40 rebate...sucks!
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful best upgrade for a desktop or a notebook computer, February 28, 2012 By G "brick3r" (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Patriot Memory PPSE120GS25SSDR (Direct) Pyro SE SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (Personal Computers) Have been using several of them for almost 6 months now. Very reliable brand and model. Faster than the one without SE model number.
GENERAL INFO about SSDs:
Probably I will point out what most heavy users already know. Upgrading the regular hard drive (even 7200 RPM ones) on a computer to an SSD is the BEST upgrade to improve your system performance. The OS will boot fast, the programs will be more responsive and the power consumption will be less, which is important especially on a portable computer.
AVAILABLE CAPACITY:
Now about the reported size of an SSD. Almost all SSDs will have reduced size due to its technology. The memory size reported in the specs is the actual size of the FLASH memory on the SSD hardware board. But the SSD controller chip (which is like a CPU with cache and I/O) will use some of this memory redundant. Complex algorithms are utilized to double the performance of a regular hard drive and file read/write operations. These complex... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful upgrade for my brother, January 30, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Patriot Memory PPSE120GS25SSDR (Direct) Pyro SE SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (Personal Computers) What do you do when you have a sibling always on your computer? You upgrade theirs so they get off yours! LOL Since I had good experiences so far with Patriot Memory, I went and looked for one of their latest and what a great opportunity to use my brother as a test subject.
Now he is running older Intel 775, which was my one of my older gaming systems.
QX6800 I think, Asus Striker II Extreme, Patriot Xtreme 1866MHZ I believe, Corsair HX650? and video card Evga 570GTX. Still a beast for what he uses it for and now it is even better. He cannot get enough on how fast everything loads now (windows 7 in 15sec) and now is off my back :)
Now I know this board is Sata II and is Nvidia chipset but the performance gain is still worth it and when he upgrades to sata III he be ready.
